How To Simplify Your Home This Spring

During the winter season, it is easy for projects to get pushed aside, clutter to pile up, and spaces to hold in more than they’re used to. The cold chases us inside and rooms begin to fill with coats, boots, and all things winter. With the arrival of spring, there is no better time to simplify and declutter your living space. We will guide you through the proper steps and checkpoints to achieve a more streamlined and peaceful home environment. Start the spring season off with a clean space that leaves room for plenty of sunlight and fresh air to fill your home!

Declutter & Simplify

Begin by decluttering your entire home from basement to the attic. This simple step can take a full weekend or even two, depending on how long it has been since you have taken a full inventory of these spaces. Take out items you haven’t used for a year and determine their purpose, value, or sentiment. To get the best results It’s essential to be ruthless with this step, as it will make the rest of the process much easier. Be sure to properly dispose of or donate items that you no longer need or want. Once you have decluttered your home, it's time to organize.

Organize

The most important step in reorganizing is making sure you have enough space and supplies to make this as successful as possible. Determine what you need first, before starting this step. Do you need extra shelves in your garage or basement? What about extra bins for your attic to ensure those items stay clean? Even rooms like the dining and living space can use a few extra baskets or bookshelves to ensure that items are being placed in a way that keeps their quality while displaying what you love in a purposeful way. Having a designated place for everything will make it easier to keep your home clutter-free!

Decorate

Call us biased but this part is our favorite. However, a simple mistake can be jumping to the decorating or “redecorating” stage before implementing steps one and two. This can lead to easy burnout or frustration. You want to start your decorating projects with as clean of a canvas as possible to best execute your overall vision. From there, you will have the energy and excitement to re-imagine the possibilities of each room because you have cleared the clutter from both your mind and the home! It is a double win.

Practice Mindfulness

Be mindful of what you bring into your home. Try to avoid impulse purchases and only buy things that you truly need or love.

Regularly assess your belongings and get rid of anything that no longer serves you. This will help prevent clutter from building up over time.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you're feeling overwhelmed, enlist the help of a friend or professional to get your home in order.

By following these steps and checkpoints, you can achieve a more simplified and organized living space that will bring peace and calm to your life. Take the time this spring to declutter and simplify your home, and enjoy the benefits of a more streamlined and peaceful living space.
