A Retreat of Elegance—Exploring the Primary Bathroom
A bathroom can be more than a utilitarian space—it can be a retreat. In this project, the primary bathroom exemplifies the art of creating a serene yet luxurious environment. Thoughtful design choices, from materials to layout, ensure that this space is as functional as it is beautiful.
The centerpiece of the room is a custom double vanity, painted the same striking blue as the kitchen cabinets, creating a cohesive thread throughout the home. Topped with Carrara marble countertops, the vanity strikes the perfect balance between bold color and classic elegance. The soft veining of the marble adds a touch of timeless refinement, while polished chrome fixtures enhance the vanity’s clean and sophisticated look.
Directly across from the vanity lies the shower, a masterpiece in its own right. The arched entrance, tiled in pristine white, serves as an inviting gateway. Inside, handmade tiles in a complementing blue create a stunning contrast against the white exterior, tying the shower’s palette to the vanity. These handmade tiles bring a unique, artisanal touch, celebrating craftsmanship and attention to detail—both hallmarks of French Country design.
Beadboard wainscoting runs throughout the bathroom, adding texture and dimension to the walls. This classic feature is both practical and decorative, breaking up the expanse of wall space while contributing to the room’s cozy yet refined atmosphere. In spaces with higher ceilings, beadboard helps ground the design, providing a sense of proportion and intimacy.
The soaking tub, nestled in a sunlit nook, offers a serene escape. Large windows frame tranquil views of the outdoors, bringing the calming influence of nature into the space. Overhead, a caged ceiling light with an antiqued finish and candelabra bulbs casts a warm, ambient glow. This fixture, a nod to Rococo opulence, adds a touch of drama without overwhelming the room’s overall calmness.
The layout of the bathroom is both functional and elegant. By separating the tub and shower, the design accommodates different uses while maintaining a sense of spaciousness. The shower’s bold, blue tile interior adds a playful contrast, while the tub area remains serene and understated.
This bathroom masterfully blends French Country’s rustic elegance with Rococo’s refined opulence. Every element, from the handcrafted tiles to the Carrara marble, reflects a commitment to quality and detail. It’s a space where practicality meets beauty, offering a retreat that is as luxurious as it is inviting.
