A Field Trip to D. Todd & Co.

Our office team recently took a field trip to visit Deborah Todd, the talented artist and maker behind D. Todd & Co., at her cozy studio in Brunswick, Maine. It was a memorable day spent exploring her creative space, discovering her latest projects, and learning about the unique process behind her handcrafted tiles. We had so much fun—and we walked away with a deeper appreciation for her work, which blends art, nature, and craftsmanship in such a beautiful way.

Deborah's tiles are special, not only does she hand-paint each tile, but she also shapes, fires, and glazes them in her studio. Her artistry is rooted in both technique and imagination, with each tile telling a story through vibrant color and intricate design.

One of the things we love most about Deborah’s tiles is her ability to capture the beauty of nature in such a personal and unique way. From her delicate floral patterns to the nautical symbols that evoke the spirit of Maine’s coastline, Deborah’s designs are a celebration of the natural world.

Her work includes everything from field tiles to accent pieces like bullnose and border tiles, making it easy to create a cohesive look in any space. Whether you’re decorating a kitchen, designing a bathroom, or working on a larger custom mural, Deborah’s designs bring a sense of character and craftsmanship that’s truly one-of-a-kind.

Deborah is especially known for her ability to create custom murals, which are a perfect way to add a personal touch to any room. We recently collaborated with her on a project where she designed a stunning blue-and-white rooster mural. The level of detail and the way Deborah brought the design to life was nothing short of breathtaking. It’s projects like these that showcase her versatility and commitment to bringing her clients’ visions to life.

Visiting Deborah’s studio was like stepping into a world of creativity and inspiration. Rows and rows of tiles line the shelves—some already completed and waiting for their next project, others in various stages of development. Her space is a true reflection of her process, where each tile starts as a blank canvas and is transformed through careful design and skilled craftsmanship.

We were fascinated to see how Deborah plays with color and pattern, often experimenting with new designs and colorways. There’s a sense of joy in her studio—an energy that comes from being surrounded by so much art and possibility. It’s clear Deborah loves working with creative people, and she takes pride in collaborating with clients to make their visions a reality.

Her work has a personal, down-to-earth quality that makes it all the more special.

At our showroom in Scarborough, we’re thrilled to have Deborah’s tiles on display, showcasing a selection of her work—from her beautiful floral tiles to the nautical symbols that capture the essence of Maine’s coastline. Every tile tells a story, and we’re proud to offer these pieces as part of our collection.

Deborah’s tiles are more than just decorative pieces—they’re true works of art. With her incredible attention to detail and ability to bring the beauty of nature into every design, her work has the power to elevate any space. If you’re looking for something unique and timeless, Deborah’s handcrafted tiles are the perfect choice. We’re excited to now feature her tiles in our showroom, and you can explore her full collection or learn more about her custom work at www.dtoddandco.com.
