Our Guide To Spring Cleaning

This month is the official beginning of spring and the cleaning refresh is inevitably in tow. This year we have created a guide to spring cleaning and wanted to share it with those who are looking for a little guidance. We are happy to have made it through another Maine winter, and before we rush to summer we will be dusting, shining, mopping, and reorganizing. Join us!

Let The Fresh Air In

Once it warms up enough to open up the windows, open them all up to let the fresh air circulate through the entire space. Keep them open while you are cleaning for a few hours to air out the rooms. Clean the fans and wipe dirt from the baseboards. Focus on areas where dust and grime may have collected over the last few months. Time to breathe in that fresh sweet spring air without any dust getting in the way!

Deep Clean Your Drains

Clean out and flush kitchen and bath drains using household items like vinegar, baking soda, and citrus. Put the lemon or orange peels in the disposable and run it. Next, turn the disposable on with ice cubes in the drain to ensure the peels are washed away leaving everything cleared out and smelling fresh. For bathroom drains combine one part vinegar and one part baking soda with warm water and pour down your drains. Run hot water afterward for about thirty seconds to ensure that the baking soda and vinegar are traveling through the pipes, cleaning as it goes.

Re-Organize The Bathroom

Start with any shelves or medicine cabinets. Toss expired products and wipe down the surfaces of ones you’re still using. Wash makeup and hairbrushes. Remove all products from under your sink, and clean the whole area before reorganizing. Scrub the soap scum and other buildup in the shower using an old toothbrush, vinegar, warm water, and baking soda is the best and easiest way to scrub that grout without using heavy chemicals.

Tackle The Linen Closet

Wash all linens, noting which ones are tired and need to be refreshed, and dust the linen closet with a dryer sheet. Refold and organize the closet if it has gotten out of hand throughout the winter. Put away your flannel sheets. It's all about the linen now!

Focus on Kitchen Appliances

Disinfect your trash can using a hose outside, tip it over on one of its sides and hose down both the inside and outside. Afterward, go in with a disinfectant spray or wipe and scrub down any grime the water didn't remove already. Clean and scrub the interior and exterior of the fridge, and do the same with your oven and microwave. The best tool to use for this is an old rag or dish towel with a disinfecting spray and warm water.

Don’t Forget The Windows

Remove your window screens and hose down outside, before setting them back in place. Be sure to wipe down windows on a shadier day to be able to better see dirt and grime build-up. It’s best to get proper window washing tools for this like a squeegee and towel. Now that spring sunlight can shine right into your freshly cleaned space!

The easiest way to enjoy our spaces and have them feeling brand new all the time is by taking great care of them. If the list starts to get too long, or you’re overwhelmed with where to start, break it up into days. Spring is here and will be for a while, you’ve got a few months to make the changes you want-no need to stress!
